I'm a single woman in her mid-30's, trying to navigate "maintenance" in the heart of the Big Apple. I reached my weight loss goal of losing 83 lbs. in November 2007. But this year in “maintenance” has been quite a journey too. I just as proud of keeping 95% of the weight off for a year as I am at losing it in the first place.

That stinks! How strange is it that you are figuring this out now? I think there are tablets out there that lactose intolerant people can take before eating things like froyo to help them digest it. Might be worth a try...
Wow - I have noticed the same exact thing! If I eat any kind of ice cream, or pizza I feel soooo sick afterwards. It's like my body can't get rid of the toxins fast enough. I can't say that I've rid my diet of these things 100%, but there is NO WAY that I can eat them like I used to. (nor do I want to!!)
I think that (for myself) I had lots of problems - but I couldn't start to see them and take care of them until the weight came off - so for me - they were there all the time - just in too big a volume to start to see. It wasn't until I felt GOOD all the time - on a regular basis - that I started to notice trends - when I didn't feel well.
I think that I felt really lousy with all the extra weight - but since I didn't have days without a lot of pain - I just didn't know it.
I know as I've gotten older, definitely an increase in lactose intolerant. Not from the wt loss I don't think. I thought it was from a time when we were living in the islands and I was drinking milk as it tasted funny and real pricey there and when I came back to the states, boom, I had a problem with dairy.
I haven't tried the pills you take like, beano. I wonder if they work. I do drink some lactose free milk but I haven't found an ice cream of that sort. I love the lt. frappo's too so it's a bummer.
